Chlorophyll

From George Eastman House : Notes On Photographs

The natural substance that gives plants green coloring. It is neutral and soluble in alcohol and ether but not in water. Although the concept was known by others, Frederic Ives introduced chlorophyll as a dye sensitizer for collodion bromide plates in 1879. [1]
